Box Score Bullets notch 2-1 win at McDaniel to tie for second in
standings
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Nina Emala gave No. 15
Gettysburg a 2-0 with just over 21 minutes to play en route to a
2-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) field
hockey action on Wednesday.
The Bullets (11-4, 5-2 CC) forged a tie with Johns Hopkins for
second place in the conference standings with three games to play
while the Green Terror (6-8, 4-3 CC) fall into a three-way tie for
fourth place. The top five teams make the conference tournament.
After a scoreless first half in which neither team had many
quality scoring chances, Lexie Hearn scored off a
corner, sending a long shot in the right side of the cage for a 1-0
lead at the 36:48 mark.
Emala doubled the advantage, tapping a hard hit from
Molly Latta around a diving McDaniel keeper at the
48:19 mark.
Mandy Pickard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll)
made it a 2-1 game tapping in a rebound for her ninth goal of the
season in the 62nd minute.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake)
made three saves for McDaniel while Christina
Anderson had five stops for Gettysburg.
Both teams took seven shots while Gettysburg finished with a
15-8 advantage in penalty corners.
The Green Terror returns to action on Saturday at Washington
(Md.) Game time is 1 p.m.
