LANCASTER, Pa. – Jamie Smith (Pasadena,
Md./Chesapeake) scored two goals to key McDaniel in a 3-1
victory at Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC)
field hockey action on Wednesday.
The Green Terror (3-2, 1-1 CC) tallied three times in the
game's first 24:07 en route to its third straight
victory.
Valerie Sauers tallied the lone goal for the
Diplomats (2-3, 0-1 CC), scoring late in the second half to break
up the shutout.
Nearly four minutes into the contest, Michelle Fluty
(Huntingtown, Md./Calvert) stole a pass and found
Kristin Mele (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) in
the center of the circle, who hit the backboard for the first goal
of the game.
At the 20:18 mark, Smith rebounded a Jessica Largent
(Denton, Md./North Caroline) missed shot and scored to
double the edge.
Just shy of four minutes later, Lindsay Riordon (Monkton,
Md./Hereford) found Smith to stretch the lead to
3-0.
With 16:15 to play, Sauers scored on a backhanded shot from the top
of the circle to set the final margin.
McDaniel finished with a 14-9 advantage in shots. Erika
Wawzyanick (Wantage, N.J./High Point Regional) made two
saves for the Green Terror while Jennifer Burdo
made two stops for the Diplomats.
McDaniel returns to action at No. 19 Christopher Newport on
Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
