WESTMINSTER, Md. – Lindsay Wilson (Catonsville,
Md./Seton Keogh) took first in the 5,000-meter race and
second in the 3,000-meter race to lead McDaniel to a first-place
finish in the Green Terror Challenge in women's cross country
action on Saturday.
The Green Terror women took first in the 3K event by a commanding
edge, outdistancing second-place York (Pa.) 14-43 but finished
second to Catholic 24-33 in the 5,000-meter race. However,
McDaniel's combined point total of 47 was 57 better than
second-place University of D.C.
On the men's side, the Green Terror was also first in both
races and overall. McDaniel took the 3,000-meter race with 20
points and the 5K event with 26 points. The Green Terror's
combined total of 46 was 20 better than second-place University of
D.C., which finished second in both events as well.
In the 5K women's race, Wilson finished the course in a time
of 20:05.10, winning by nearly 20 seconds. Emily Peoples
(Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) and Roxanne
Fleischer (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) finished fifth
(21:25.85) and sixth (21:28.46), respectively.
Laura Shinn (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington) rounded
out the scoring quartet with a 23rd-place finish,
crossing in a time of 24:21.85.
Wilson was second in the 3K race, leading a trio of Green Terror
runners across the line.
Wilson finished in a time of 12:14.35 while Peoples (12:36.95),
Fleischer (12:39.37) and Emma Nichols (Myersville,
Md./Middletown) (12:4497) followed her through the
chute.
Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) and
Sarah Costa (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson)
added top-10 showings, finishing seventh (13:12.66) and eighth
(13:33.08), respectively.
For the men, C.J. Naper (New Windsor, Md./South
Carroll) led the way in the 5K race, finishing fifth
overall in a time of 17:29.
Scott Pusateri (Accident, Md./Northern) and
Kevin Bowman (Westminster, Md./Brunswick) added
top-10 showings, crossing seventh (17:36) and 10th
(17:43), respectively.
Dustin Smith (Kotzebue, Alaska/Homeschool) crossed
13th in a time of 18:01.
In the 3,000-meter event, Bowman won the race with a time of
10:06.50. Naper finished fifth (10:21.91) while Cody
Crutchley (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) was sixth
(10:23.50).
Rob Kelvey (Westminster, Md./Westminster) was
eighth with a time of 10:29.55.
McDaniel returns to action at York (Pa.) Invitational on
Saturday.
