GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Lindsay Wilson (Catonsville,
Md./Seton Keogh) finished in ninth place overall to earn
second-team All-Centennial Conference (CC) honors and lead McDaniel
to a sixth-place showing at the 2008 CC women's cross country
championships hosted by Gettysburg on Saturday.
The Green Terror posted its best team finish since 2002, tallying
177 points. Johns Hopkins snapped Dickinson's eight-year
dominance, winning its first-ever CC cross country championship
with 49 points. The Red Devils finished second with
83.
On the men's side, McDaniel finished with 186 points to place
sixth – its best showing since the inaugural CC meet in 1993.
Dickinson ended Haverford's stranglehold on the men's
title with 23 points, marking the first time a men's team
other than the Fords claimed the crown. Haverford was second with
44 points.
Wilson covered the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:08.22.
Roxanne Fleischer (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill)
placed 25th with a time of 23:56.11 while Emily
Peoples (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) crossed
43rd in a time of 24:53.95.
Emma Nichols (Myersville, Md./Middletown) was
63rd (25:41.68) while Jennifer Garnett (Los
Altos, Calif./Homestead) was 66th (25:49.48) to
round out the Green Terror's top five.
Kevin Bowman (Westminster, Md./Brunswick) led
McDaniel in the 8,000-meter men's race, finishing
29th in a time of 27:10.50. Rob Kelvey
(Westminster, Md./Westminster) and C.J. Naper (New
Windsor, Md./South Carroll) crossed 37th
(27:31.31) and 38th (27:31.59),
respectively.
Cody Crutchley (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas
Johnson) was 58th with a time of 28:28.16.
Dan White (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key)
crossed 67th (29:07.93) while Russell Morin
(Lusby, Md./Patuxent) followed him across the line in
68th (29:17.81).
McDaniel returns to action at the NCAA Division III Mideast
Regional meet at Waynesburg on Saturday. The women's race
begins at 11 a.m. with the men's race to follow.
