BELLE VERNON, Pa. – Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless
Hills, Pa./Truman) fired a career-low round of 68 in the
first round to lead McDaniel to a sixth-place finish at the Vulcan
Invitational hosted by California (Pa.) on Sunday and Monday.
The Green Terror posted a round of 301 on the par-71 Red Course on
Sunday before carding a 314 on the longer par-72 Gold Course on
Monday.
Indiana (Pa.) won the nine-team tournament that featured eight
Division II teams with a total of 576, posting a 283 on Sunday and
a 293 on Monday.
Kovalacheck, after carding the lowest round by a McDaniel player
since Steve Perrone shot a 68 at the Wesley Fall Invitational in
2005, finished in a tie for 15th place overall with a
two-day total of 149.
KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) posted
matching rounds of 75 to finish in a tie for 17th place
with a 150.
Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) carded
a 76 on Sunday before recording a round of 79 on Monday to finish
with a two-day total of 155.
Jeff Smith (Elkridge, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) and
Alex Campbell (Howell, N.J./Wall) finished with
two-round totals of 161 (82-79) and 165 (83-82),
respectively.
McDaniel returns to action at the Gettysburg Invitational on
Tuesday. Tee time is 1 p.m.
