WESTMINSTER, Md. – Megan Yoder tallied
two goals and an assist to lead third-ranked Ursinus to a 7-1
victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey
action on Saturday.
The Bears (13-2, 8-0 CC) built a 5-0 lead at halftime to improve to
12-1 in their last 13 games and become the first CC team to clinch
a berth in the upcoming conference playoffs.
Jamie Smith (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) tallied the
lone goal for the Green Terror (7-9, 4-4 CC), who has lost its last
three games by a combined score of 17-3.
Kait Sutherland opened the scoring off a
Jen Hooven assist just 4:30 into the
game.
Just 1:38 later, Sutherland made it a one-goal, one-assist day,
finding Michelle Wimmer on a penalty
corner.
Two unassisted Yoder goals 7 minutes, 23 seconds apart made it a
4-0 game in the 20th minute.
Five minutes before the break, Hooven stretched the lead to 5-0,
capping a half that saw the Bears outshoot McDaniel,
23-0.
Smith broke up the shutout just 1:22 into the second half but
Jennie Moore and Jennifer Bayzick
tallied 5:54 apart to round out the scoring.
Ursinus finished with advantages of 32-5 and 20-5 advantages in
shots and penalty corners, respectively.

Scott had four at the other end.
McDaniel concludes the home schedule against No. 8 Johns Hopkins on
Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
