HAMPSTEAD, Md. – Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills,
Pa./Truman) shot a two-round total of 156 to lead McDaniel
to a eighth-place finish at the McDaniel Fall Invitational in
men's golf action on Sunday and Monday at Piney Branch Golf
Club.
The Green Terror combined to card a two-round score of 644,
finishing with a 321 on Sunday and a 323 on Monday. Washington and
Lee won the 10-team invitational with a total of 615 (306-309).
Kovalcheck fired a round of 77 in the first round before carding a
round of 79 in round two to finish tied for 12th place
overall. Robert Womlbe (Washington and Lee) won
the tournament with an even-par 142, firing matching rounds of
71.
Alex Campbell (Howell, N.J./Wall) and Jeff
Smith (Elkridge, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) carded matching
two-day scores of 163, inverting their rounds. Smith fired a 78 on
Sunday before posting an 85 on Monday. Campbell followed up his
first-round 85 with a 78 in the second round.
KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) posted
a 166 (85-81) while Greg Bowman (Catonsville,
Md./Catonsville) shot a 172 (81-91).
Taylor Massie (Southington, Conn./St. Paul
Catholic), Chris Merrill (Kingsville,
Md./Fallston) and Conor O'Maille (Frederick,
Md./Gonzaga) all competed as individuals. Massie posted a
171 (86-85) while Merrill shot a 174 behind matching rounds of 87.
O'Maille carded a 194 (94-100).
McDaniel opens the spring season with its own invitational at the
Bridges Golf Club on Mar. 28-29.
