WESTMINSTER, Md. – Lizzie Boorse recorded
a goal and two assists to lead Dickinson to a 5-1 victory over
McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on
Tuesday.
The Red Devils (7-5, 3-2 CC) held an 8-2 advantage in shots and 6-1
edge in penalty corners during the decisive first half in which
they built a 3-0 lead.
Kristin Mele (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill)
tallied the lone goal for the Green Terror (7-7, 4-2 CC), who has
alternated wins and losses over its last 10 games.
Off a rebound at the 20:14 mark, Boorse dumped a short pass to
Katelynn Bias to stake Dickinson to a 1-0
lead.
Just 53 seconds later off a corner, Boorse found Amanda
Zavada on the near post to double the
advantage.
Kaity Moore cleaned up a scramble in front of the
cage with just eight seconds left in the opening half to make it a
3-0 game.
Just 1:08 into the second half, Michelle Fluty
(Huntingtown, Md./Calvert) found Mele for her team-leading
fifth assist and Mele's team-best ninth goal of the
season.
Just under four minutes later, Bias returned the favor from earlier
and found Boorse on a fast break in front of the cage to
re-establish the three-goal lead.
In the 56th minute, Zavada capped the scoring getting a
stick on a pass from Moore to redirect the ball into the backside
of the cage.
McDaniel took 10 shots in the second half to finish with a 12-10
advantage for the game and had all six penalty corners awarded to
finish with a 7-6 edge.
The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg on Oct. 22. Game
time is 4 p.m.
