PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Paul Kovalcheck
(Fairless Hills, Pa./Truman) shot a two-round total of 153
to lead McDaniel to a 14th-place finish at the Nova
Southeastern Shark Invitational in men's golf action on
Monday and Tuesday.
Competing as the only Division III team in a primarily Division I
and II tournament, the Green Terror combined to post a 631 in a
rain-shortened event. The field was scheduled to play 36 holes on
Monday and 18 on Tuesday but due to severe weather throughout the
day on Monday only 18 holes were completed around multiple delays,
forcing the decision to shorten the tournament from 54 to 36 holes.
The teams, not without more delays Tuesday morning due to the
weather, were able to complete the 18 scheduled holes on
Tuesday.
McDaniel followed its opening-round 322 with a second-round showing
of 309.
Barry won the 15-team tournament with a combined score of 577,
firing a tournament-low round of 281 on the first day.
Kovalcheck shot a round of 78 on Monday before carding a 75 on
Tuesday.
KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) also
posted a 75 in the second round after turning in an 84 in the first
round to finish with a two-day total of 159.
Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) matched
Mazurek's 159, carding a 78 on Monday and an 81 on
Tuesday.
McDaniel concludes the fall season at its own invitational on
Sunday and Monday at Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead. Tee time
on Sunday is 12 p.m.
