WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kristin Mele (Ellicott City,
Md./River Hill) scored two first-half goals to stake
McDaniel to a 2-0 lead en route to a 2-1 victory over Muhlenberg in
Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Friday.
The Green Terror (7-6, 4-1 CC) outshot the Mules (4-8, 1-4 CC) by a
9-5 margin but were at a 10-3 disadvantage in penalty corners,
including an 8-1 margin in the first half.
Tara Cohn tallied for Muhlenberg.
In the 15th minute, Mele rebounded a Krstina
Skinner (Westminster, Md./Westminster) shot-and-save for a
1-0 lead.
Nearly 13 minutes later, Mele got by a defender and slid the ball
into the left side of the cage to double the
advantage.
Off a corner in the 52nd minute, Cara
Rothacker received the ball at the top of the arc and
played a short pass right to Cohn, who blasted a shot through the
defense and to the backboard.
Erika Wawzyanick (Wantage, N.J./High Point
Regional) made two saves for McDaniel while
Michelle Consiglio had six stops for the
Mules.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Dickinson on
Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
