WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior
Abigayle Bowley added 10 kills and five blocks as the McDaniel College volleyball team swept a tri-match with Susquehanna and Rutgers-Newark Saturday inside the Gill Center.
The Green Terror (3-0) have started the season with three-straight wins for the first time since 2018 when they team went 23-9 and advanced to the championship match of both the Centennial Conference and ECAC Championship.
First-year
Annika Cortez totaled 23 kills over the two matches, including a career-high 12 against Susquehanna. Sophomore
Mariya Carson added 11 kills while junior
Kaylee Comstock totaled 43 assists, eight service aces, and nine digs.
McDaniel 3, Susquehanna 1 (25-14, 25-20, 18-25, 25-23)
Cortez led the offense against the River Hawks (1-2) and hit .360 with just three errors in 25 attempts. She had 10 kills on 11 swings with no errors in the first two sets as the Green Terror jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Carson had seven kills and sophomore
Christiana Alapa added six kills. Comstock totaled five kills, 22 assists, three service aces, and five digs.
After Susquehanna won the third-set, the visitors were on the verge of forcing a fifth and deciding set as they led 23-17. However, the Green Terror scored the final eight points, including two on service aces by first-year
Arrian Spratt, to take the victory.
McDaniel scored the final three points on River Hawk errors.
Senior
Reese Beck totaled 14 digs, four assists, and two service aces while Bowley had four kills and three block assists.
McDaniel 3, Rutgers-Newark 0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-18)
Cortez had another 11 kills to lead the offense, posting a .357 hitting percentage with four digs. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Saidat added seven kills, two shy of her career high.
As a team, the Green Terror had 11 service aces for the second-straight match, including eight in the third set as the team used a 9-0 run to erase a 14-10 deficit and take a 23-15 advantage.
Bowley added six kills and two block assists while Beck led the defense with nine digs. Junior
Stephanie Buttons had four kills and eight digs.
McDaniel travels to Notre Dame Maryland on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match against the Gators.
