CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Junior
Stephanie Buttons posted her first career double double to lead the McDaniel College volleyball team to a road sweep over Wilson Tuesday, 25-18, 25-17, 25-9 inside Gannett Field House.
The Green Terror (6-1) picked up their sixth win in seven matches this season as they are off to their best start to a season in the last four years when they were 7-1 following a 3-0 win over Wilson at home on Sept. 15, 2023.
Buttons totaled a career-high 12 kills to go along with 11 digs and six service aces. She had just three errors in 22 attempts for a .409 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Mariya Carson added a season-high 11 kills and had a .647 hitting percentage.
As a team, McDaniel totaled 39 kills and a season-high .333 hitting percentage to go along with 13 service aces and 11 total blocks.
Carson had five kills and Buttons had four in the first set where the visitors used a 6-1 run to break a 4-4 tie and take a 10-5 lead. The Green Terror scored three points on three service aces, including two by first-year
Arrian Spratt. They stretched it to as many as nine and never let it slip below four.
McDaniel jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the second set and never trailed as Buttons totaled six of her 12 kills to put the visitors in front, 2-0.
The third set featured five ties and three lead changes. With the set tied at 8-8, the Green Terror scored 14 consecutive points behind the serve of Buttons who had five service aces. Carson added three kills and the Phoenix (0-7) had five attack errors.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Saidat had seven kills and six total blocks while junior
Cassy Poteet had 24 assists, two service aces, four digs, and three blocks.
McDaniel will host a tri-match for the third consecutive weekend on Saturday as it welcomes Stevenson and Marymount (VA) to the Hill for three matches starting at 10 a.m. inside the Gill Center.
