ARLINGTON, Va. – The McDaniel College softball team swept a road non-conference doubleheader with Marymount (VA) on Wednesday.
A go-ahead two-run double from first-year
Emma McPherson gave the Green Terror (11-14) a 6-5 win in the opener.
Game 1: McDaniel 6, Marymount (VA) 5
The Saints (14-11) opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI-single to left field for a 1-0 lead. First-year
Gianna Apostolakos tied the score in the second with an RBI-double to score senior

Marymount regained the lead in the bottom half of the second on a steal of home plate, adding an insurance run in the third on an RBI-single to go ahead 3-1. Two more runs came across to score in the frame on a two-run double, making the score 5-1 after three.
The Green Terror answered with a five-run fourth, taking a 6-5 lead they would not relinquish. Senior

Caitlin Boden responded with an RBI-single of her own to score Apostolakos. Smith scored on an RBI-groundout from junior
Keyonna Gonzalez to cut the deficit to 5-4, and McPherson gave McDaniel the lead with a go-ahead two-run double to score Boden and sophomore
Cameron Kelly for a 6-5 lead.
The one-run lead held all the way until the seventh, when the Saints left the tying run on base to give the Green Terror a 6-5 win in game one.
McPherson led the way at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Smith and Apostolakos each had two hits in three at-bats with an RBI. Boden and Gonzalez also finished the opener with an RBI.
Kelly picked up her seventh win in the circle, throwing 4.1 innings on 90 pitches and totaling three strikeouts, three walks, five earned runs and nine base hits. Junior
Amy Anderson pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, striking out two and only allowing three hits on 42 pitches.
Game 2: McDaniel 13, Marymount (VA) 5
A four-run first inning put the Saints ahead early after a two-run double and a two-run single. The Green Terror then plated three runs in the top of the second, scoring on an RBI-double from Apostolakos and a two-run single from Boden to make the score 4-3.
McPherson drilled an RBI-single down the left field line to score Smith and tie the game 4-4 in the fourth inning. Four more runs came across to score in the fifth, starting with an RBI-single from Apostolakos to score Jackson from a 5-4 lead. Smith drove in senior
Morgan Rogers and Boden hit an RBI-double to score junior
Anna Putnam for a 7-4 lead. Smith scored on an RBI-groundout from Gonzalez for a four-spot in the inning.
Smith and Boden added RBI-doubles in the sixth for a 12-5 lead and Putnam plated a 13
th run on an RBI-single to score Jackson for the game's final 13-5 margin.
Boden finished game two with five RBIs on three base hits while Smith went a perfect 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot with two RBIs and three runs scored. Apostolakos had two hits and two RBIs while Jackson went 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Rogers and Putnam each added two hits in the win.
Rogers went the distance and earned her first win of the season, totaling one strikeout, four walks, four earned runs and nine hits on 95 pitches.
The Green Terror return to Centennial Conference play on Saturday with a road doubleheader against Franklin & Marshall. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
