Homers from Daly & Sealing Lead to 13-2 Win Over Shoremen

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Graduate Student Shane Daly and sophomore Austin Sealing each hit home runs to highlight a 13-2 win for the McDaniel College baseball team over Washington College on Friday from Preston Field.

Daly's three-run homer was his team-leading ninth of the season for the Green Terror (19-7, 2-2) and seventh in the last six games. He is now tied for the conference lead in home runs along with Chase Ruppel of the Shoremen (14-12, 2-2).

Washington College scored the game's first runs on a two-run homer in the first. An RBI-double from sophomore Thomas Mezzullo drove in junior Shea McKenna to make the score 2-1 after one.

Daly belted a three-run homer into right field to give the Green Terror a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second, his ninth round-tripper of the year. Junior DJ Stolba added a two-run double in the third to score Mezzullo and sophomore Anthony Cerone for a 6-2 advantage.

A four-run fifth inning gave the Green Terror control of the game. McKenna opened the scoring on a fielder's choice and sophomore Henry Novario connected on a two-run single to drive in Stolba and Cerone. Daly collected his fourth RBI of the day on an RBI-single to score sophomore Cameron Simon. Cerone tacked on an 11th run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Sealing drilled his first career homer to left for the game's final 13-2 margin.

Daly had a two-hit day at the plate with four RBIs and a run scored while Stolba and Sealing each had two hits and two RBIs. McKenna and Mezzullo both collected tow base hits and scored two runs while Cerone added two RBIs and two runs. Novario went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

First-year Alex Von Behren earned his first career win on the mound, tossing three innings and totaling two strikeouts, four walks, two earned runs and four hits on 60 pitches.
