WESTMINSTER, Md. - Leading by two late in the second quarter, the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team scored 10 of the game's final 14 goals in a 15-7 victory over Elizabethtown on Saturday at Gill Stadium.
The Green Terror (4-3) posted their third-straight win overall and fifth in-a-row against the Blue Jays.
Senior
Addison Utterback totaled six points with four goals and two assists, all career highs. She also had four goals, two assists, and six points in a 17-4 win at Goucher on February 18.
First-year
Olivia Foulke and
Kat Thayer also netted hat tricks with three goals each while Thayer added five ground balls and five draw controls.Junior
Emily Conklin scored two goals while adding six draw controls and three caused turnovers.
McDaniel had a season-high 42 shots with 11 caused turnovers and 21 ground balls, the team's second-highest total this season.
The Green Terror scored the game's first three goals to take a 3-0 lead less than three minutes in before Elizabethtown (3-1) rallied with three of the next five to cut its deficit to two, 5-3 with 6:13 remaining in the second quarter.
Led by goals from Foulke, Thayer and first-year
Julianna Blair, McDaniel stretched its lead to five before a Blue Jay goal with just over two minutes left cut their deficit to four at halftime, 8-4.
Blair finished with two goals on two shots, including a woman-up tally.
Ella Scholes and Alyssa Golombeck scored to start the second half and pull the visitors back within two, 8-6 with 9:00 to play in the third, before McDaniel responded with four-straight and seven of the final eight to pick up its first home win this season.
Utterback had a hand in four of the team's seven goals with three goals and one assist.
First-year
Nicole Ruther made her third start in goal and finished with five saves to improve her record to 2-1 while senior
Caleigh Kohr had two saves in just under 20 minutes. Kohr now has 292 career saves, moving her into ninth on the program's all-time saves list.
McDaniel returns to action next Saturday, March 14 when it travels to New York to take on St. Joseph's (LI). Opening draw is set for noon.
