Utterback, Hamilton Lead McDaniel in Loss to No. 25 Haverford

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior Addison Utterback and sophomore Claire Hamilton combined for five goals as the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team dropped a Centennial Conference contest to No. 25 Haverford on Saturday, 17-5.

Utterback netted her fifth hat-trick of the season and fourth in the last five games for the Green Terror (6-5, 0-2 CC). Hamilton posted her first career multi-goal game with two tallies, both assisted by Utterback.

The Fords (7-4, 2-0 CC) held just a two-goal lead after the first quarter, 3-1, before scoring eight goal on 13 shots in the second quarter to take an 11-2 lead at halftime.

Utterback scored both goals for McDaniel in the first half, scoring a woman-down goal off an assist from senior Kat Thayer with 8:27 remaining in the first quarter before adding her second tally on a feed from sophomore Gracie Nash with 6:01 left in the second.

Haverford, the fourth-ranked scoring offense in the conference, scored the first four goals to start the second half, increasing its lead to 15-2 before Hamilton answered with back-to-back tallies, the last of which came with 1:24 to play in the third quarter.

Utterback completed her hat trick with 5:42 remaining in the third, scoring off an assist from Thayer for the second time.

Despite picking up two assists for the second-straight game, Thayer was held without a goal for the second game in-a-row and the third time this season. She is currently ranked eighth in the conference in goals per game. She also leads the league in shots, but was held to just three on Saturday.

Senior Caleigh Kohr got the start in goal and finished with five first-half saves before giving way to first-year Nicole Ruther who played the third quarter. Sophomore Audrey Musser made her third appearance of the season in goal, playing the entire fourth quarter.

Junior Emily Conklin totaled four draw controls and three caused turnovers while Thayer added three ground balls and three draw controls.

The Green Terror return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Carlisle, Pa., to take on Dickinson. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
