COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore
Cameron Kelly totaled three hits, four RBIs and earned a shutout win in game one to lead the McDaniel College softball team to a doubleheader split with Ursinus to open Centennial Conference play on Saturday.
Kelly racked up four strikeouts and six walks while allowing only two hits in a complete game shutout for the Green Terror (7-12, 1-1) in game one.
Game 1: McDaniel 4, Ursinus 0
The Green Terror broke through in the third inning with a three-run frame. Kelly scored senior
Ryan Smith on an RBI-single for the game's first run, and the team scored back-to-back runs on wild pitches to go ahead 3-0.
First-year
Erin Thayer drove in fellow first-year
Shiloh Wall on an RBI-ground out in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead, a lead which would hold as the final score in the opener. The Bears (8-12, 1-1) left six runners on base over the game's final three innings as the Green Terror held on to take the victory.
Kelly and Thayer notched RBIs in the win while Smith had three base hits in four at-bats from the leadoff spot. Juniors
Caitlin Boden and
Keyonna Gonzalez each had two base hits while Wall had two hits and a run scored.
McDaniel jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Ursinus rallied with 11-straight runs to take game two.

Wall opened the scoring in the second after scoring on a wild pitch, adding four runs in the third on a two-run double from Kelly and a two-run single from first-year
Emma McPherson. Kelly drove in another run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth to score sophomore
Ally McBride for a 6-0 advantage.
The Bears answered in the bottom of the fourth with a four-run frame, scoring on an RBI-ground out, a two-run single and an RBI-single. Another four-run inning in the fifth gave Ursinus the lead, taking a 7-6 lead on a two-run double and adding another run on a fielding error to go ahead 8-6. The Bears tacked on a three-run double in the sixth inning for the game's final 11-6 tally.
Kelly finished with three RBIs in the loss while McPherson had a base hit and two RBIs. McBride had two hits and scored twice while Wall and junior
Riley Jackson each collected two base hits.
McBride took the loss in the circle, totaling seven strikeouts, three walks, five earned runs and seven hits allowed in 4.2 innings. Junior
Arianna Kelly pitched 1.1 innings in relief, striking out one and walking one in 27 pitches.
The Green Terror return to the Softball Park on Tuesday for the team's home conference opener against Washington College. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3 pm.
