WESTMINSTER, Md. – Home runs from sophomores
Cameron Kelly and
Ally McBride led the McDaniel College softball team to a home sweep over Washington College on Tuesday from the Softball Park.
Kelly earned her sixth pitching win of the season for the Green Terror (9-12, 3-1) in the opener, going 3-for-3 with a home run in the win.
Game 1: McDaniel 14, Washington College 5
The Shorewomen (6-18, 1-3) opened the scoring in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk, but Kelly answered with an RBI-double in the bottom half to score senior
Ryan Smith and tie the game 1-1. A four-run frame put Washington College ahead 5-1 midway through the second; McDaniel responded with two runs in the inning on an RBI-ground out from first-year

The Green Terror exploded in the third inning with eight runs coming in to score. Junior
Riley Jackson hit an RBI-single to make the score 5-4, and Thayer tied the game with an RBI-single to drive in first-year
Emma McPherson. An RBI-single from Smith gave McDaniel the lead and McBride followed with a two-run double to make the score 8-5. Boden added an RBI-double of her own moments later and Kelly rounded out the inning with a two-run homer to put 11 runs on the board.
Three more runs came across to score in the fourth as Thayer drove in Jackson on an error and McBride hit a two-run single into right center field for a 14-5 lead and a win via run rule in five innings.
McBride had four RBIs on two base hits in the opener while Kelly and Thayer each had three RBIs. Boden had two hits in four at-bats with two RBIs while Smith had three hits and four runs from the leadoff spot.
Kelly earned the win in the circle, totaling six walks, five earned runs and eight hits in five innings.
Game 2: McDaniel 8, Washington College 6
An RBI-single for the Shorewomen plated game two's first run in the first inning, and the Green Terror tied the score 1-1 after senior
Taylor Applefeld scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the second.
McDaniel took the lead in the third on an RBI-double from Kelly and an RBI-ground out from McPherson to move in front 3-1. McBride then belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning to make the score 6-1 after four.
McBride added another RBI on a single in the fifth for a 7-1 lead, but Washington College fought back with four runs in the top of the sixth. An RBI-double from Jackson in the sixth plated an insurance run for the Green Terror, now leading 8-5. The Shorewomen would score on a fielder's choice in the seventh but left two runners on base to end the game and secure the sweep for the Green Terror.
McBride finished with three hits and four RBIs in the win, giving her eight RBIs on the day. Kelly added two hits and an RBI while McPherson went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Thayer and Jackson each delivered RBI hits while Smith went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
McBride also earned the pitching win, tossing five innings and totaling two strikeouts, five walks, one earned run and five hits allowed.
The Green Terror continue a four-game homestand on Saturday with a conference doubleheader against Swarthmore. First pitch is slated for 1 pm from the Softball Park.
