Eight-Run Second Highlights First Win at The Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. - The McDaniel College softball team scored eight runs in the bottom of the second to post a 9-4 victory over Farmingdale State on Monday at The Spring Games.

The Green Terror (3-6) picked up their first win on their annual Spring Break trip, scoring nine runs on 10 hits with no errors.

First-year Shiloh Wall earned her first career win in her first career start, striking out four while scattering six hits. She also recorded her first RBI at the plate while drawing a walk.

Each team scored a run in the first before the Rams (0-1) added another in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead.

However, the Green Terror responded with eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the second to take a commanding 9-2 lead. They began the inning with three consecutive hits by junior Sariah Guevara, junior Riley Jackson, and senior Chloe Candeloro to load the bases. Wall reached on an error to score Guevara before RBI singles by senior Ryan Smith and junior Caitlin Boden put the team in front, 5-2.

A bases clearing double by junior Keonna Gonzalez made it 8-2 before Gonzalez scored the final run when Jackson stole second base.

Farmingdale State (0-1) added its final two runs on back-to-back RBI singles in the fourth, but Wall retired nine of the final 12 batters she faced to secure the win.

Boden went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Smith also went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Guevara and Jackson each went 2-for-2 with a walk while Gonzalez had three RBIs.

After Monday's second game against Wisconsin-Stevens Point was called due to lightning, McDaniel will return to action on Tuesday against Smith and Amherst beginning at 9 a.m.
