CLERMONT, Fla. – The McDaniel College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Smith and Amherst on day three of the Spring Games on Tuesday.
A seven-run sixth inning lifted Smith over the Green Terror (3-8) in the opener, 12-9.
Game 1: Smith 12, McDaniel 9
McDaniel stuck twice in the first inning, scoring on an RBI-double from junior
Caitlin Boden and an RBI-ground out from junior
Keonna Gonzalez to go ahead 2-0. A three-spot in the second increased the McDaniel lead to 5-0 as first-year

Riley Jackson each scored on bases-loaded walks and senior
Chloe Candeloro scored following a fielder's choice. A two-run double put the Bears (3-2) on the board in the bottom of the second.
Smith then tied the game 5-5 in the third on a two-run single. Boden hit an RBI-single in the fourth to score senior
Ryan Smith to give the Green Terror the lead back, and McDaniel added three runs in the fifth for a 9-5 advantage. Senior
Sariah Guevara scored on a bases-loaded walk while Smith and sophomore
Ally McBride tacked on RBIs for the four-run lead.
The Bears answered with a seven-run sixth inning to take the lead for good. Smith tied the game 9-9 on a sacrifice fly and took the lead after scoring on a wild pitch, tacking on two more runs on a two-run single for the game's final 12-9 tally.
Boden went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored while McBride and first-year
Erin Thayer each finished with two RBIs. Jackson had a three-hit day in four plate appearances while Smith and Gonzalez each added an RBI.
Senior
Morgan Rogers took the loss in relief, allowing four earned runs on three hits and one walk in one inning of work. McBride started in the circle and totaled three strikeouts, two walks, four earned runs and 10 hits.
Game 2: Amherst 15, McDaniel 4
An RBI-single from senior
Taylor Applefeld in the second inning put McDaniel on the board first in the late game. The Mammoths (1-3) then responded with a 10-run frame in the third, totaling eight hits and three walks to go ahead by nine early.
First-year
Gianna Apostolakos hit a sacrifice fly to score Smith in the bottom of the third, and Jackson belted a two-run double to score Boden and sophomore
Cameron Kelly to cut into the Amherst lead. The Mammoths slowed the McDaniel rally with five unanswered runs to put the game away in five innings.
Jackson finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs while Kelly had a two-hit day at the plate. Kelly took the loss in the circle, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits while recording a strikeout and three walks. Junior
Amy Anderson pitched 2.1 innings in relief, totaling four walks, six earned runs and six base hits.
The Green Terror continue competing at the Spring Games on Thursday with a doubleheader against Wisconsin-La Crosse and Ripon. First pitch is set for 9 am.
