Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

McDaniel Posts First 20-Win Season, Playoff Victory Since 2016

CARLISLE, Pa. - Senior Elaina Beckett totaled a double double to lead the McDaniel College women's basketball team to a 51-38 road win at Dickinson in the first round of the Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Championship on Tuesday.

The Green Terror (20-6) posted their first 20-win season and first conference tournament victory since 2016. They also picked up their second-straight win at the Kline Center this season after having lost the previous five.

As a result, McDaniel will travel to top-seeded and third-ranked Johns Hopkins on Friday in the semifinals after third-seeded Ursinus knocked off sixth-seeded Washington College at home Wednesday night, 53-47.

Beckett had 16 points and 11 rebounds, recording her fourth double double this season and the 20th of her career. She currently ranks third in program history with 1,421 points in 92 career games.

Junior Raegan Lenz added 14 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks while going 6-for-9 from the floor. She now has 79 blocks this season, the third-most in a single-season in program history. Current Assistant Vice President of Constituent Engagement Heidi M.S. Reigel '97 totaled 80 blocks in 1993-94 and 83 in 1994-95.

Lenz has totaled 171 blocks in 78 career games, the second-most in program history, trailing only Reigel who had 271 from 1993-97.

Junior Teya McConnaha had six points and 16 rebounds while sophomore Lauren Cavoli had six points, five assists, and three steals.

The top scoring defense in the Centennial Conference, McDaniel held the Red Devils (14-12) to just 38 points on 30.6 percent shooting as they were 15-of-49 from the floor. The visitors also out-rebounded their opponent, 46-24, which included 17 offensive rebounds leading to 13 second-chance points and totaled 10 steals, scoring 14 points off 16 Dickinson turnovers.

The Red Devils held a slim one-point lead after the first quarter before the Green Terror held them to just eight second-quarter points to take a 25-22 halftime lead. A three-point play by Lenz at 5:36 tied the game, and Beckett's three-pointer at 4:16 gave McDaniel the lead for good with 4:16 remaining in the second quarter.

The game featured three ties and three lead changes, the last of which came at 28-28 with 6:35 left in the third.

The Green Terror outscored the hosts 38-21 over the final three quarters, including 23-10 over the final 17 minutes.

McDaniel will face the Blue Jays in the postseason for the first time since Feb. 28, 2014. The last two meetings between the two teams at Goldfarb Gymnasium have been decided by seven points or less.
