Morgan Linton each had sixth-place finishes to lead the McDaniel College women's wrestling team at the Region III Championships hosted by Emmanuel University on Saturday.
The Green Terror finished ninth as a team with 40.5 points, just half-a-point ahead of Marymount (VA). No. 5 Presbyterian won the team title with 181.5 points, qualifying an individual for the national championships in all 10 weight classes. The host and 10th-ranked Lions finished second with 149.5 points and had six individuals qualify for nationals.
Oxenberg went 1-2 on Saturday at 110 pounds and finished the tournament 2-3, falling to Emmanuel's Haley Zinninger by tech fall in the fifth-place match, 11-1 in 4:28. She began the day with a fall in 3:53 over Milena Chavarria of Delaware State. She then fell to Randolph's Alanna Jenning by fall in 1:45.
After posting two wins in two matches at 180 pounds on Friday, Linton dropped all three of her matches on Saturday, falling to two of the region's top four ranked wrestlers. In the opener, she was pinned by second-ranked Journey Land of Mount Olive before falling to fourth-ranked Aniyah Griffin of Huntingdon by decision, 12-7. She fell to Frosburg State's Maria Hiles in the fifth-place match by fall in 4:56.
In her lone match of the day at 117 pounds, first-year
Ariana Carnahan fell to Mount Olive's Ahriana Scales by fall in 2:34 despite leading the match 11-3.
At heavyweight, first-year
Kayla Carter fell to Waynesburg's Ja`Khia Matthews in round three of the consolation bracket by fall in 51 seconds.
McDaniel concludes its second collegiate season with a 7-8 dual match record and a top 10 finish at the regional championships. Last year, the team went 1-6 in dual matches and did not register a team score at the Region II National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships.
