Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to Randolph-Macon, 11-5

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Randolph-Macon outscored the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team 7-1 in the first and fourth quarters which proved to be the difference in an 11-5 victory on Saturday at Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (1-2) fell behind 6-1 with 12:14 remaining in the second quarter and despite cutting the deficit to three on three separate occasions, could not get any closer and dropped their fourth consecutive meeting against the Yellow Jackets.

First-year Olivia Foulke scored two goals on three shots to lead the offense while first-year Grace Legacy added one goal and one assist. Junior Emily Conklin added a goal to go along with two ground balls, three caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Senior Kat Thayer totaled two ground balls, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls.

First-year Julianna Blair netted her first career goal on a free position with 8:38 remaining in the second quarter.

McDaniel hel a 25-17 advantage in shots, but Gillian Gladden totaled 15 saves to preserve the lead for the visitors.

The Yellow Jackets (2-1) led 4-1 after the first quarter, scoring the final three goals to break a 1-1 tie. They also scored the first two goals of the second to take a five-goal lead before back-to-back goals by Legacy and Blair pulled the Green Terror within three.

However, Gladden had five saves in the second while the visitors scored with 1:35 to play to take a 7-3 lead at halftime.

McDaniel scored twice in the third to pull within three twice, the last at 8-5 on Conklin's goal with 12:41 left, but Randolph-Macon scored three unanswered goals in the fourth to provide the final margin of victory.

After making three saves in Wednesday's win at Goucher, first-year Nicole Ruther made her second career appearance on Saturday, totaling a career-high four saves while allowed just five goals over the final 42 minutes. She also had a team-high three ground balls.

McDaniel hosts Hood on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. start against the in-state rival Blazers.
