BRIDGEWATER, Va. – A bases loaded, walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning of game two propelled Bridgewater (VA) to a doubleheader sweep over the McDaniel College baseball team in the season opener on Saturday.
The Green Terror (0-2) dropped two of three games in last season's opening series to the Eagles (7-0) on walk-off hits.
Bridgewater 11, McDaniel 1 (Game One)
After an RBI single from junior
Ethan Haddock in the fifth inning scored graduate student
Shane Daly to cut the McDaniel deficit to 2-1, the Eagles responded with a seven-run frame in the bottom half of the fifth to take control of the contest. Two bases-loaded walks followed by a two-run single and three-run home run propelled the Eagles to a 9-1 lead. Bridgewater would tack on two more runs to win the opener, 11-1.
Daly finished with two hits in four plate appearances while Haddock was responsible for the team's lone run. Senior

Brady Harach took the loss in the opener, pitching four innings and striking out three Eagle batters while allowing four hits and two runs in 75 pitches. Sophomore

Bridgewater 8, McDaniel 7 (Game Two)
The Green Terror scored twice in the second inning to take an early lead following an RBI single from sophomore
Cameron Simon. Bridgewater tied the game at 2-2 in the second and took the lead in the third on a two-run double; McDaniel answered with four runs over the next four innings to take a 6-4 lead. Sophomores

Thomas Mezzullo each collected RBI singles while junior
DJ Stolba scored on an error. Novario tacked on a seventh run in the seventh to increase the Green Terror lead to 7-4.
Bridgewater scored in the eighth to cut the deficit to two, setting the stage for a dramatic ninth. A leadoff single followed by back-to-back walks loaded the bases, and the Eagles tied the game at 7-7 with an RBI single and an RBI hit by pitch. Bridgewater won with a walk-off single into right field to claim an 8-7 victory and a sweep.
Simon reached base in all four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two walks. Novario had a four-hit game while batting in two runs. Mezzullo went 3-for-5 with two runs scored while McKenna also had a two-hit game.
First year
Luke Wood got the start in game two, walking three and striking out one in 76 pitches. Sophomore
Austin Sealing took the loss in relief, allowing three earned runs and two walks.
The Green Terror make the short trip to Stevenson on Wednesday to battle the local rival Mustangs. First pitch is slated for 2 pm.
