McDaniel Remains Unbeaten at Home, Tie No. 17 Swarthmore

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College women's soccer team remained unbeaten in five games at home this season with a 1-1 tie in a Centennial Conference contest against No. 17 Swarthmore Saturday at the Soccer Complex.

The Green Terror (6-2-3, 2-1-1 CC) extended their home unbeaten streak against the Garnet to eight games dating back to Oct. 12, 2013, posting a 5-0-3 record.

First-year Hariette Ngwatung scored her third goal of the season just over three minutes in to give McDaniel the lead on its first shot of the team's first shot of the game. She is second on the team in goals and points this season and has scored in back-to-back contests after scoring the game-winner in Wednesday's win over Elizabethtown.

The Green Terror maintained its one-goal lead through the first 45 minutes as each team had seven shots and McDaniel held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Garnet (6-1-2, 3-0-1 CC), who sit atop the conference standings with Dickinson, scored the equalizer in the 70th minute on a penalty kick goal by leading scorer Ava Gizzie who netted her sixth of the season.

Prior to the PK attempt, Swarthmore had a chance to take the lead in the 68th minute when a shot by Izzy Tolosa with an open net was blocked by a Green Terror defender.

The two teams were evenly matched as the visitors held a slim 15-14 edge in shots and a 6-5 margin in saves while each team committed seven fouls.

Sophomore Sierra Ruehl had four saves while allowing one goal or less for the eighth time in 11 starts this season.

McDaniel wraps up its three-game home stand on Wednesday against Franklin & Marshall. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. The two teams are currently tied for fourth place in the Centennial Conference standings.
