IMMACULATA, Pa. - Led by junior
Bruce Black, five players scored in double figures as the McDaniel College men's basketball team posted its fifth-straight win Monday, 78-70 on the road at Immaculata.
All five wins came on the road for the Green Terror (9-2) who are off to the second-best start to a season in program history. Last year's team started the season with 10 wins in the first 11 games.
Black finished with 19 points and six rebounds, scoring nine points at the free throw line where he was 9-for-14.
Junior
David Kearney totaled 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks while going 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
As a team, McDaniel was 19-of-28 from the free throw line, two makes shy of the season-high 21 it made in a 70-67 win at Messiah on December 3.
Sophomore
Ashenafi Stuart had 13 points, nine of which came on three three-pointers, while junior
Ryan Shaffer and senior
Matt Kearney each added 10. Shaffer also had a game and career-high 13 rebounds for his second career double double. He had 25 points and 10 rebounds in a 71-65 win at Delaware Valley on November 22.
The game featured four ties and six lead changes, the last of which came with 6:00 remaining in the first half when
David Kearney scored on a layup to give the visitors a 26-24.
The Green Terror used a 10-4 run to build an eight-point advantage before taking a 39-33 halftime lead.
Black scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half as McDaniel led by as many as 23 before the Mighty Macs scored 17 of the game's final 19 points over the last 1:19 to provide the final margin.
Sophomore
Dallas George had six points and four assists as the Green Terror improved to 3-0 versus Immaculata in the first meeting between the two teams since Dec. 10, 2016.
McDaniel opens Centennial Conference play at home on Saturday when it hosts Franklin & Marshall for a 3 p.m. tip-off inside the Gill Center.
