Monn Breaks Wins Record, No. 23 McDaniel Holds Off Mules

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior Thomas Monn became the program's all-time wins leader as the McDaniel College men's wrestling team posted a 26-18 victory over Muhlenberg Friday night inside the Gill Center.

The Green Terror (6-5, 1-0 CC) picked up their second win at home and second-straight against the Mules in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.

Monn improved to 25-0 this season at 149 pounds and his 23rd bonus-point victory with his sixth tech fall over Eoghan O'Hara, 17-2 in 3:45. It was the 127th career win for Monn, surpassing Brock Glotfelty '11 for the most in program history.

Glotfelty, who was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022, held the record for 15 years, finishing his career with a record of 126-21. He was in attendance tonight to congratulate Monn on breaking the record as the two posed for a photo on the mat together after Monn improved to 58-1 in dual matches for his career.

Monn was one of six winners for McDaniel who jumped out to an 18-5 lead after wins in four off the first five matches.

Monn, first-year Andrew Yuen, and first-year Andrew Dolezel each recorded tech falls before senior Andre Allen edged out a 7-5 decision at 157 pounds to cap four consecutive wins for the Green Terror after Muhlenberg (3-4, 0-1 CC) began the night with a tech fall at 125.

With the exception of a tech fall by junior Alex Taylor at 184 pounds, the Mules won three of the next four matches to pull within five points, 23-18, heading into the final match.

Facing the same scenario he did in the team's last match at Marymount (VA) on January 17, senior Kaden Bryan needed to avoid being pinned to secure the victory for McDaniel.

Bryan, who was ranked sixth in Region 3 earlier in the new National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings released on Friday, took control midway through the second period en route to a 9-2 decision and his 18th victory of the season, tying him with senior Romeo Tsai for the second-most on the team.

The Green Terror return to action tomorrow when they head to Elizabethtown for the Ken Ober Invitational. Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
