Ashenafi Stuart scored a game-high 21 points while senior
David Kearney scored 17 to lead the McDaniel College men's basketball team to a 66-49 victory over Dickinson at the Kline Center on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Green Terror (10-3, 1-1) improved to 4-0 on the road to start the season, claiming their third triumph in the last four matchups with the Red Devils (3-11, 0-2).
The contest opened with 13 combined points in the first 3:30 of the game. After Dickinson grew its lead to 13-8 at the 14:09 mark of the first half, McDaniel responded with a 12-1 run to take a six-point lead. The Red Devils closed the gap to two at 25-23 but the Green Terror rattled off another quick 8-0 run to surge ahead by 10. Three-pointers from sophomore
Dallas George and Stuart with under a minute left in the half grew the Green Terror lead to 14 at the break.
The Red Devils cut the deficit to nine in the second half but the Green Terror answered with baskets from Kearney and junior
Ryan Shaffer. A pair of late free throws from George gave McDaniel its largest lead of the contest at 19, and the visitors closed out the final minutes to seal the road win in conference play.
Stuart scored 21 points, including three 3-pointers, and was perfect from the free-throw line with 8-for-8 shooting. Kearney recorded 17 points and collected five steals while George contributed with a career-high 13 points and achieved a career-high total of eight rebounds, while also adding two steals. Shaffer posted two steals and gathered seven rebounds in a strong defensive effort.
McDaniel converted 14-of-20 free throw attempts and forced 17 Red Devil turnovers, scoring 20 points off those giveaways. Dickinson won the rebounding battle 31-29 but connected on only 3-of-15 three-pointers, while McDaniel knocked down six shots from beyond the arc.
The Green Terror will return home to the Gill Center on Saturday for a battle with conference rival Swarthmore. Tip-off is slated for 4 pm.
