CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Freshman
Ally McBride finished the day with four RBIs and a pitching win as the McDaniel College softball team split a doubleheader at Washington College on Thursday.
McBride went 2-for-5 and had three RBIs in game one for the Green Terror (10-8-1, 2-2) hitting her first career home run in the third inning. She also got the win in the circle, pitching a complete game and striking out seven Shorewomen (5-15, 1-3).
McDaniel sent the opener into extra innings, where the Green Terror broke a 4-4 tie with seven runs in the eighth inning to win 11-5.
McDaniel 11, Washington College 5 (Game 1)
Sophomore
Ashley Shawyer singled into center field to score freshman
Emma Taff in the first inning. McBride blasted a solo homer into center to give the Green Terror a 2-0 lead after three, with McBride only allowing three baserunners through the first three frames.
Washington College broke through in the fourth, putting three runs on the board. An RBI single followed by a throwing error at second base that scored two runs and gave the Shorewomen a 3-2 lead at the end of four.
Washington College added another run in the fifth but McDaniel responded with a solo home run from Shawyer in the sixth, her second round-tripper of the season.
Trailing by one in the top of the seventh and down to their final out, senior
Bella Sylvester was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring sophomore
Caitlin Boden and tying the game 4-4, sending the opener to extra innings.
McDaniel scored seven runs in the top half of the eighth to take command in extras. Freshman
Cameron Kelly broke the tie with an RBI single, scoring junior
Morgan Rogers after Rogers stole third base. Boden scored Kelly on another RBI single, and sophomore
Keonna Gonzalez then scored Boden moments later. McBride smashed a two-run single into right field to make the score 9-4, and Shawyer added two more runs on another RBI single.
Shawyer had three hits in five at-bats, finishing with four RBIs in the win. McBride had a two-hit and three RBI game while Taff had a career-high three hits and two runs scored. Junior
Sariah Guevara went 2-for-4 while Boden had an RBI and scored two runs.
McBride went the distance in the win, tallying seven strikeouts and two walks while only allowing two earned runs and eight base hits.
The Green Terror fought back from an early deficit but fell after a four-run inning from the Shorewomen in game two.
Washington College 10, McDaniel 5 (Game 2)
After Washington College took the lead with two runs in the first inning, McDaniel responded with a three-run third. Boden led off the inning with a triple, and McBride reached base on an error to allow Boden to score from third. Three straight walks sent another run in, and an RBI single from sophomore
Libertie Schatzman put the Green Terror ahead, 3-2.
The Shorewomen took the lead for good with a two-run bottom half of the third. Washington College plated two more runs in the fourth and scored four more in the sixth, three of which were scored after throwing errors in the infield.
Now trailing 10-3 in the seventh, Gonzalez began the Green Terror rally with a two-run single into left field to score Sylvester and McBride, but a strikeout ended McDaniel's hopes of a comeback, sealing a 10-5 win for the Shorewomen.
Gonzalez went 1-for-3 and finished with a career-high three RBIs in the loss. McBride had another multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Sylvester also had a multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Schatzman recorded a hit and an RBI.
Kelly took the loss in the circle, allowing six earned runs and 10 hits in 3.2 innings. Freshman

Amy Anderson pitched in relief of Kelly for the final 2.1 innings of the game.
The Green Terror travel to Swarthmore on Saturday to take on the Garnet in another Centennial Conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
