Softball Drops Doubleheader to No. 13 Salisbury and Stockton

SALISBURY, Md. – The McDaniel College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against No. 13 Salisbury and Stockton from Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium on Saturday.

The Green Terror (0-3-1) struggled offensively on the day, failing to score a run in either contest. 

Salisbury 11, McDaniel 0 (Game 1)

The Seagulls (5-1) scored three runs in the first inning, two of which were scored on passed balls. Salisbury increased the lead to 7-0 after two unearned runs came across the plate in the second inning. An RBI triple in the third made the score 8-0, and the Seagulls would plate three more runs to close out the contest.

Senior Bella Sylvester and sophomore Riley Jackson each had a hit to lead the offense. Senior Jessica Millard and junior Ryan Smith each got on base by drawing a walk.

Freshman Ally McBride took the loss, giving up four earned runs and seven total while walking four batters on 40 total pitches. Freshman Kaylah Morosko made her collegiate debut in relief, facing five batters and throwing nine pitches.

Stockton 8, McDaniel 0 (Game 2)

After scoring three in the first inning, the Ospreys (5-1) blasted a solo home run in the second to increase their lead, 4-0. Stockton added another homer in the fifth to make the score 7-0. The Ospreys tacked on another run on an RBI single later in the inning.

Sophomore Ashley Shawyer and sophomore Keonna Gonzalez each had a hit in the loss. McBride, Millard and junior Taylor Applefeld all got on base with walks.

Sophomore Amy Anderson pitched all four innings, giving up eight earned runs and 10 hits while striking out four in 48 pitches.

The Green Terror will travel to Leesburg, FL on Mar. 16 for the Spring Games to face Rutgers-Camden in the first game of a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 am from the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.
