HAVERFORD, Pa. - Junior
David Kearney totaled 24 points and 19 rebounds to lead the McDaniel College men's basketball team to a 70-57 road win over Haverford Saturday at Calvin J. Goodling Arena.
The Green Terror (13-8, 3-6 CC) picked up their 13th win of the season, their most since 2015-16 and moved into the sixth and final spot in the 2025 Centennial Conference Men's Basketball Championship with four games remaining, three of which are at home.
Kearney is the first player to have at least 19 rebounds for McDaniel since Kevin Yrizarry had 19 in a 73-57 win over Muuhlenberg at home on Feb. 18, 2017.
The last person to pull down at least 20 rebounds in a game for the Green Terror was Rolando Welch who had 20 against Messiah on Nov. 23, 1992.
In two wins this week, Kearney averaged 27.0 points and 13.5 rebounds after he was the first player to score 30 points in a game for McDaniel since Nov. 13, 2021 in Wednesday's 62-57 victory at Washington College.
Haverford jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first seven minutes and took its biggest lead of the game, 19-7, with 9:10 remaining in the first half. However, led by four points from Kearney and three from junior
Jonas Sujeta, the Green Terror scored the next 12 in-a-row to tie the game at 19-19 with 6:13 to play.
With McDaniel trailing 22-21, Kearney scored eight of the team's next 12 points as the visitors used a 12-5 run to take a six-point lead, 33-27 with 1:15 left.
Kearney scored 16 first-half points and added 11 rebounds as the Green Terror led 35-30. They went a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line as Kearney was 4-for-4 and freshman
Ashen Stuart was 3-for-3.
McDaniel led 39-30 less than a minute into the second half before the Fords (5-16, 2-7 CC) used an 18-8 run to retake the lead, 48-47 with 11:16 remaining.
With the game tied at 50-50, the Green Terror scored 13 consecutive points to retake the lead for good.
Sujeta scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half while graduate student
Chuck Contee had 11 of his 15. Kearney added eight points and eight rebounds.
Stuart finished the game with seven points and four assists while senior
Jeong Hwang had five.
McDaniel hosts first-place Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
