McConnaha Leads McDaniel to Road Win at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Sophomore Teya McConnaha totaled her eighth career double and fourth this season to lead the McDaniel College women's basketball team to a 51-43 victory over Washington College Wednesday at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium.

The Green Terror (14-6, 5-4 CC) picked up their 14th win of the season, marking their most wins since 2015-16 when the team finished 21-7 and advanced to the ECAC Divison III South Championship.

McConnaha had 19 points and 11 rebounds, posting her second-straight double double and third in the last six games.

Junior Elaina Beckett had nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks while freshman Lauren Cavoli had eight points and senior Lil Overcash had five points and five assists.

McDaniel trailed 34-32 entering the final quarter before outscoring the Shorewomen 19-9 over the final 10 minutes. The Green Terror shot 60.0 percent from the floor with three three-pointers while limiting Washington to just 3-of-16 shooting and holding a 12-6 advantage in rebounds.

McConnaha scored 10 of her 19 points in the decisive fourth quarter, outscoring the hosts by herself. She was 4-of-6 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds. Overcash, who had four assists in the quarter, assisted on three McConnaha baskets.

McDaniel opened the quarter on a 7-0 run, limiting the Shorewomen (13-7, 6-4 CC) to just one made free throw over the first three-and-a-half minutes. McConnaha scored 10 of the team's first 12 points as the visitors took a 44-40 lead with 4:34 remaining.

A three by Cavoli put the Green Terror in front by five with 3:34 to play and they scored their final four points from the free throw line while holding Washington without a basket over the final 4:02.

McDaniel returns home to face Haverford on Saturday. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.

Before the game, the team will take part in a Free Sports Clinic for ages 6-13 in Old Gill Gymnasium for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Check in begins at 11 a.m. The team will also hold a post-game autograph session in the lobby of the Gill Center immediately following the game. Admission to both the clinic and the game is free.
