Contee Scores 24, First Half Leads Gettysburg Past McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Graduate student Chuck Contee scored 24 points, including 17 in a second-half rally, but the McDaniel College men's basketball team came up short in a 75-66 loss to Gettysburg Wednesday night inside the Gill Center.

The Green Terror (13-11, 3-9 CC) fell behind by 11 at halftime, 40-29, after shooting just 34.6 percent from the floor and allowing 22 points in the paint.

Led by Contee, McDaniel cut what was a 14-point deficit with 9:19 remaining in the second half, down to three, 63-60, on a floating jump shot in the paint by Contee with 5:05 left.

However, Gettysburg (19-5, 10-2 CC) answered with a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to push the lead back to 13, going 7-of-8 from the free throw line and limiting the Green Terror to just one field goal on five attempts.

Contee went 5-for-9 for the floor in the second and 6-of-7 from the free throw line while adding three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Juniors David Kearney and Jonas Sujeta each added seven second-half points as McDaniel shot 50.0 percent.

Nevertheless, the visitors went 17-of-25 from the free throw line and committed just two turnovers.

On a night when Contee was honored for scoring his 1,000th career point, he totaled his sixth 20-point game this season and the ninth of his career. Kearney and Sujeta each finished with 12 points. Senior Russell Dandridge added seven points and three rebounds off the bench while freshman Ashen Stuart had four points and a team-high five rebounds.

McDaniel concludes the regular season at home on Saturday against Muhlenberg. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. on Senior Day.
