WESTMINSTER, Md. - Penn State Altoona made eight consecutive free throws in the final 1:16 to hold off the McDaniel College men's basketball team in a 62-55 victory Tuesday night inside the Gill Center.
The Green Terror (4-2) struggled at the free throw line, going 9-for-17 for 52.9 percent, including 6-for-13 for 46.2 percent in the second half.
Senior
David Kearney totaled his first double double of the season and the sixth of his career with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Junior
Bruce Black added 15 points and five rebounds while sophomore
Ashenafi Stuart had 11 points.
McDaniel trailed by as many as 12 points with 7:16 remaining in the second half before a 14-3 run, capped by a Kearney three-pointer, pulled the team within one with 3:13 to play, 51-50.
The two teams would trade baskets before Black found himself at the free throw line for two shots with the Green Terror trailing 54-52. The game featured seven ties and three lead changes, but Black missed the second attempt and the Nittany Lions grabbed the rebound before a foul sent Nehemiah Frye to the line for a one-and-one.
Frye would make both as Penn State Altoona (4-3) made all eight of their free attempts in the final 1:16. Meanwhile, McDaniel went 1-for-4 from the foul line during that time and 1-for-4 from the floor as it fell to 4-2 at home this season.
The Nittany Lions finished the game 16-for-19 from the free throw line, including 9-for-11 in the second half. They also committed just 11 turnovers compared to 18 for the Green Terror.
Black totaled 12 of his 15 points in the second half, but struggled at the free throw line, going 5-for-11.
Sophomore
Dallas George totaled six points, three rebounds, and two steals.
The game marked the last of six-straight at home to open the 2025-26 season for the Green Terror who now face a five-game road trip. They don't return home again until Saturday, Jan. 10 when they hosts a Centennial Conference contest against Franklin & Marshall.
Following the Thanksgiving holiday, McDaniel begins its five-game road trip on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Messiah. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
