LANCASTER, Pa. - Senior
Grayson Wendel totaled his third 100-yard receiving performance in the last four games to lead the McDaniel College football team in a 24-3 road loss to Franklin & Marshall at Shadek Stadium Saturday.
The Green Terror (1-7 , 0-5 CC) held the Diplomats to their second-lowest offensive output of the season, limiting them to 285 yards. Franklin & Marshall averages 341.8 yards and 30.3 points per game.
Wendel had seven catches for 103 yards. As a result, he surpassed 1,000 yards receiving for his career and now ranks 14th on the school's all-time list with 1,065.
Over his last four games, Wendel has caught 24 passes for 399 yards, eclipsing 100 yards against Ursinus, Dickinson and F&M.
Meanwhile, senior
Logan Marsh had six catches for 59 yards and also eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark for his career. He ranked 15th on school's all-time list with 1,051 yards receiving. He also has 98 career receptions as he looks to become just the 11th player in program history to reach 100.
The Diplomats (7-1, 5-0 CC), who are unbeaten in five conference games this season along with No. 3 Johns Hopkins, scored on the game's opening drive to take an early 7-0 lead with 10:30 remaining in the first quarter.
After each team traded punts, sophomore
Jaden Booker appeared to have scored a game-tying touchdown on a 9-yard run on first-and-goal, but the score was negated by a holding penalty on McDaniel.
Two plays later, Oscar Marx returned an interception 88 yards for a touchdown, stalling the second drive of the game for the Green Terror. Instead of the game being tied at 7-7, Franklin & Marshall led 14-0 with 7:03 remaining in the second quarter.
The Diplomats added a 24-yard field goal by Michael Fleming with nine seconds remaining in the first half to take a 17-0 halftime lead.
Like the home team in the first half, McDaniel scored on the game's first drive of the second as first-year
Braden Fritz made a career-long 37-yard field to cap a 16-play, 54-yard drive that used 6:33.
It was the longest drive of the season for the Green Terror in terms of plays and the third-longest in terms of time.
That was as close as the visitors could get as their final four drives and 24 plays resulted in two punts, a turnover on downs, and the end of the game.
Franklin & Marshall added a 5-yard touchdown run by Louis Paris with 10:30 to play in the fourth after the team recovered a fumbled punt at the McDaniel 18-yard line.
The visitors held the Diplomats to just 5-of-12 on third-down conversions and did not allow a sack for the second time this season. Sophomore
Donte Evans had six tackles, including one sack, while first-year
Jonathan Irvin had two tackles, including 1.5 sacks.
McDaniel makes the short trip to Charm City next Saturday, Nov. 8 to take on No. 3 Johns Hopkins. Kickoff is at noon.
