Sierra Ruehl combined for a season-high nine saves as the McDaniel College women's soccer team fell on the road at No. 17 Swarthmore Saturday at Clothier Field, 4-0.
The Green Terror (4-4-3, 1-2-1 CC) fell to the Garnet for the first time since Nov. 3, 2018 in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Women's Soccer Championship, snapping a six-game unbeaten streak.
Swarthmore scored the game's first two goals on its first two shots less than three minutes into the contest, just 34 seconds apart.
Lauren Lior opened the scoring with her first goal of the season at 2:04 before Charlotte Carleton controlled a loose ball off a deflection and found the back of the next at 2:38.
The Garnet (8-1-2, 4-0-0 CC) had 18 first-half shots while holding the visitors without one. They also recorded all four corner kicks.
Celia Kanellakos scored in the 15th minute before Ava Gizzie scored on a 1-on-1 with Ruehl off Nicole Jensen's second assist of the half in the 28th.
Ruehl finished with a career-high six saves in the the first 45 minutes before giving way to Langlo for the final 45.
Langlo had three second-half saves as McDaniel made some adjustments, had four shots, and both corner kicks in the half. Lila Travers stopped both shots on goal for Swarthmore, one by first-year
Alaina Miller in the 74th minute and the second by sophomore
Olivia Agosta in the 86th.
McDaniel committed just three fouls in the contest, compared to 12 for the Garnet who also had one yellow card. A total of 24 players saw action for the Green Terror.
McDaniel travels to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
