Offense Totals 512 Yards in 23-20 Homecoming Loss to Dickinson

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College football team had 512 yards in total offense, but an interception return and safety keyed a 23-20 victory for Dickinson Saturday on Rembert Field at Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (1-6, 0-4 CC) had its best offensive performance in the last 35 games since it had 525 yards in total offense in a 35-19 victory at Juniata on Sept. 10, 2022.

Seniors Logan Marsh and Grayson Wendel each had 100 yards receiving as Marsh had nine catches for 137 yards and one touchdown while Wendel added six receptions for 118 yards. The last time McDaniel had two 100-yard receivers in the same game was Sept. 30, 2017 when Bamasa Bailor had nine catches for 129 yards and Matt Schleifer had five catches for 145 yards versus Juniata at home.

Sophomore Jayden Booker threw for a career-high 289 yards, completing 20-of-45 passes.

The Green Terror led 13-7 at halftime after a 35-yard interception return by senior Christian Homer and a 4-yard run by senior Micajah Cobbs.

However, the Devils (4-3, 2-2 CC) scored 16 unanswered points in the third quarter, nine of which came on the defensive end via a 45-yard interception return and a safety.

The visitors scored on the opening drive of the second half, a 4-play, 48-yard drive capped by an 8-yard run from Cedric Benning, to take their first lead, 14-13 with 13:37 left in the third quarter.

McDaniel responded with a 13-play, 68-yard drive down to the Dickinson 7-yard line before Booker was intercepted by Sean Couvertiere.

After the Green Terror defense forced a three-and-out, Booker was intercepted on his second consecutive pass attempt by Josh Moses who returned it 45 yards for a touchdown and a 21-13 Devil lead.

Disaster struck again for the third-straight offensive play on McDaniel's next possession as junior Jacob Wagner fumbled on the first snap, giving the ball back to the visitors at the Green Terror 40-yard line.

The defense would force another three-and-out, but on the second play of the next possession for the offense, Booker was forced out of the back of the end zone for a safety by Joaquin Acuna to push the Dickinson lead to 10 points with under three minutes to play in the third.

On four third-quarter possessions, McDaniel ran 17 plays for 74 yards while committing three consecutive turnovers and allowing a safety.

The Green Terror would find the end zone for the second time on their next-to-last possession in the fourth quarter as they capped a 13-play, 93-yard drive with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Booker to Marsh with 1:24 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Defensively, McDaniel limited Dickinson to 252 yards of total offense while forcing six punts and totaling four interceptions. They also totaled two sacks. Graduate student Malachi Murphy led the way with eight tackles while Homer had seven with one interception. Sophomore Bryce Allen finished with three tackles and two interceptions.

The Green Terror begin a two-game road trip next Saturday, Nov. 1 when they head to Lancaster, Pa. to take on Franklin & Marshall. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
