Men's Soccer Posts Win Over Regionally-Ranked Gettysburg

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College men's soccer team scored a season-high four goals in a 4-2 victory over regionally-ranked Gettysburg on Wednesday at the Soccer Complex.

The Green Terror (8-4-3, 2-2-3 CC) extended its unbeaten streak to three against the Bullets, who entered the game ranked sixth in the United Soccer Coaches Region V rankings.

With the win, McDaniel currently sits in fifth place in the Centennial Conference standings with two games remaining. The top six teams advance to the 2025 Centennial Conference Men's Soccer Championship.

Six different players scored a point for the Green Terror, led by seniors Carver Neary who had three points with one goal and one assist. He and senior Charlie Olson each netted their team-leading fifth goal of the season.

McDaniel's four goals were its most in 34 games, since it scored four in a 4-0 win at Wilson on Sept. 4, 2024.

The Green Terror also totaled eight shots in each half for a total of 16, their second-highest of the season. The team had 19 in a 3-0 win at Penn State Altoona on Aug. 29.

McDaniel out-shot Gettysburg 16-4, striking first in the 27th minute when senior Conor O'Brien scored his second goal of the season off a rebound on a shot by Neary that hit the left post. The goal snapped a five-game scoreless drought for the Green Terror that totaled 511:55.

After picking up an assist on O'Brien's goal, Neary found the back of the net just 3:29 later when he gained control of a loose ball in the penalty box and sent it into the left corner for his first goal since a 1-1 draw at Washington College on Sept. 20.

Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Bullets (9-5-2, 3-2-2 CC) got on the board just 1:17 into the second half when Finn Hoefer scored off an assist from Tommy Myers.

The Green Terror added a needed insurance tally in the 74th minute when first-year Nicholas Clarke scored his first career goal on a long pass from the defensive end by sophomore Trevor Grodsky who picked up his first career point in 18 games, including 14 this year and four last season at Salisbury.

Gettysburg's Cameron Linnington scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season just over six minutes later to pull the visitors within one before Olson netted his first goal since he netted the game-winner in a 1-0 win at Ursinus on Sept. 27. Senior Noah Rodriguez picked up his team-leading sixth assist on the play for his eighth point of the season.

McDaniel faces a tough conference road test on Saturday at No. 8 Dickinson. Kickoff from Miller Memorial Field is at noon.
