WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sophomore
Kyree Shingler collected his first career interception as the McDaniel College football team fell at home to Muhlenberg 56-7 on Saturday on Rembert Field at Kenneth R. Gill Stadium.
Shingler grabbed his interception late in the second quarter to stop a scoring threat before halftime, securing the sixth interception of the season for the Green Terror (1-5, 0-3).
The Mules (5-1, 2-1) scored on their opening drive, later recovering a fumble and scoring two plays later to take a 21-0 lead at the end of one. Muhlenberg scored again on the opening play of the second quarter and went into the halftime break with a 42-0 advantage.
McDaniel opened the second half with a nine play, 75-yard drive, highlighted by long completions to seniors
Grayson Wendel and
Logan Marsh to push the Green Terror into Muhlenberg territory. Sophomore
Jayden Booker found paydirt on a five-yard touchdown run to put McDaniel on the board with just over 10 minutes to play in the quarter.
The Mules then answered with a 61-yard kickoff return, resulting in another score five plays later. Muhlenberg would tack on another touchdown in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
Booker completed 18-of-27 for 216 yards and an interception while sophomore
Jacob Wagner led the team in rushing with 36 yards on the ground. Wendel hauled in five passes for 77 yards while senior
Tony Miller also totaled five grabs for 70 yards through the air. First year
Mehari Ivory had a 43-yard kickoff return to start the fourth quarter.
The Green Terror held in the advantage in passing yards with 216, averaging 12 yards per completion. Muhlenberg complied 484 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers and four punts in the win.
McDaniel returns to Gill Stadium on Saturday for its annual Homecoming game to take on the Red Devils of Dickinson. Kickoff is slated for 1 pm.
