WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior
Xavier Howard picked up his 87th career win with a tech fall at 157 pounds as the McDaniel College men's wrestling team fell to Elizabethtown Saturday on Senior Day, 31-15.
Competing in their first home match since Dec. 14, the Green Terror (2-12) won three matches with junior
Thomas Monn and junior
Avery Cummings picking up wins at 149 and 174 pounds, respectively.
Monn picked up his 20th win of the season for the third consecutive year and like Howard, now has 87 career wins as the two are tied for seventh on the program's all-time wins list.
After McDaniel fell behind 14-0, Monn posted his third major decision of the season with a 17-5 victory over Braden Scott. Ranked 10th nationally and tops in Region 3, Monn now has a career record of 87-9.
Howard, ranked fourth in Region 3, followed with a commanding 20-4 victory over Michael Beers, sealing his eighth tech fall just 20 seconds into the second period.
Cummings picked up his seventh win of the season and his sixth by fall with a first period pin of Jacob Speed in 2:51.
One of six seniors honored before the match,
Alex DuFour fought Braden Schuyler in a high scoring battle at 125 pounds. Ranked fifth in Region 3, DuFour fell by a score of 32-20. It marked the 127th career match in four seasons for DuFour.
The match at 133 pounds featured two regionally-ranked wrestlers in junior
Romeo Tsai and the Blue Jays' Corey Cope. Ranked fourth in Region 3, Cope posted a 9-0 major decision over Tsai who is ranked seventh.
Appearing in his 89th career match, senior
Val Pryor battled Will Davis before a second-period escape point proved to be the difference in a 1-0 win for Elizabethtown (5-3).
The final match of the evening was also decided by just point as Elizabethtown's Ksawery Niewiadomy was awarded an escape point on the way out-of-bounds with just six seconds remaining in a 7-6 victory over junior
Zeke Gayle.
In addition to Pryor, DuFour and Howard, McDaniel also honored seniors
Justin Shiflett,
Ty Jefferson and
Joe McKneely.
The Green Terror begin a two-match road trip on Friday, Jan. 24 with their first Centennial Conference contest of the season at Muhlenberg beginning at 7 p.m.
