Grinwis Throws Three Touchdowns in 30-20 Loss at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. - Senior Eric Grinwis threw for 251 yards and a career-high three touchdown passes as the McDaniel College football team hit the road for the first time, falling to Rowan Saturday at Richard Wackar Stadium, 30-20.

The Green Terror (1-1), who dropped the first-ever meeting between the two in the Garden State, were hampered by four turnovers, three of which came on their first four possessions.

Grinwis completed 21-of-33 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns, but was intercepted three times. His favorite target was junior Grayson Wendel who had seven catches for 98 yards, both career highs.

Graduate student Wesley Nchinda had five receptions for 42 yards and two scores while senior Kyle Silver had four catches for 55 yards and one touchdown. Nchinda entered the game with one touchdown in 20 career games while Silver hauled in his first career touchdown.

The Profs (2-0) received the opening kickoff and drove 65 yards on nine plays, capped by a 41-yard touchdown run by Nunes Bukula IV. Meanwhile, McDaniel would turn the ball over on each of its first two possessions before Grinwis connected with Silver from 23 yards out to tie the game at 7-7 with 14:55 left in the second.

After each team threw interceptions on its next possession, Rowan would score touchdowns on its next two to take a 20-7 lead with 1:12 left in the first half.

The Profs extended their lead to 27-7 on a 28-yard pass from Nate Maiers to Michael Zarfati on their first possession of the second half before back-to-back scores by Nchinda, separated by a 24-yard field goal from Tommy Laperriere pulled McDaniel within 10 at the start of the fourth.

However, the Green Terror would turn the ball over on downs on its final two possessions, despite driving to the Rowan 21-yard line with 3:30 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Rowan had 413 yards of total offense, including 258 yards rushing, with nearly 35 minutes of possession time. The Profs possessed the ball for nearly 20 minutes in the first half. They also had six sacks while forcing four turnovers.

Sophomore Jake Koehler had eight tackles, including six solo and one for loss while adding one pass breakup. Senior Malachi Murphy had seven tackles and one interception while senior Mike Cunningham totaled four solo tackles with one sack.

McDaniel returns home to face William Paterson next Saturday, Sept. 21. Kickoff from Gill Stadiium is at 1 p.m.
