Daly Leads McDaniel in 4-2 Loss to Dickinson in Season Finale

BALTIMORE, Md. - McDaniel baseball junior Shane Daly had three hits and broke the program single season record for stolen bases in a 4-2 loss to Dickinson in the 2024 Centennial Conference Baseball Championship Monday at Johns Hopkins.

The Green Terror (23-15) finish the season with their most wins and first conference tournament appearance since 2016.

Daly went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and one stolen base. His stolen base which led to the game's first run of the game in the top of the first was his 25th of the season, setting a new single-season school record, surpassing Antonio Rosanova who had 24 in 2017.

Daly gave McDaniel a 1-0 lead just three batters into the game as he reached on an error, stole second, advanced to third on a fly out to right field by freshman Ethan Haddock and scored on an RBI-ground out by graduate student Joey Hubinger.

The Red Devils (28-11) tied the game after back-to-back doubles to lead off the bottom of the third before taking the lead on a solo home run from Josh Markley with one out in the bottom of the fourth.

The Green Terror tied the game for the second time when Daly led off the top of the fifth with a double to right center before scoring on an RBI-single by Haddock.

Dickinson would retake the lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth and would maintain its one-run lead until the bottom of the eighth when Johnny Bruno hit a solo home run to left center to make it 4-2.

The Red Devil pitching tandem of Austin Buzza and Joey Sangiuolo limited McDaniel to just one earned run on seven hits while striking out four to lead Dickinson back to the championship game for the second-straight year for a rematch with No. 9 Johns Hopkins.

Sangiuolo scattered three hits over the final 4.0 innings to pick up sixth save, the second-most in the conference behind McDaniel junior Conor Henderson.

Haddock was 2-for-5 with one RBI, finishing his first collegiate season with 62 hits, the second-most in a single season in team history behind Marty Windisch who had 67 in 2016.

Senior Tyler Yohn went 1-for-4 with his sixth-inning single marking the 171st hit of his career, moving him into sole possession of fifth place in program history ahead of Sean Sivo who had 170 from 2013-16. Yohn's 117 RBIs are the second-most in program history behind Windisch who had 130.

Meanwhile, Hubinger finished his career with 179 hits, the fourth-most in program history, just two behind Antonio Rosanova who had 181 from 2015-18. Today marked his 135th career game, tying him with Cameron Bahr who played in 135 from 2013-16. It was also the 133rd career start for Hubinger, moving him into fourth past Marshall Betts who made 132 from 2011-14.

Hubinger also finishes with the most doubles in team history at 42, tying him with Nick Valori who had 42 from 2014-17. The two are also tied for third in program history with 106 RBIs.
