WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior
Makayla Calamita totaled two hits to lead the McDaniel College softball team in a non-conference doubleheader against No. 2 Salisbury at the Softball Park on Sunday.
The Green Terror (10-14) allowed just four earned runs in the opener and held a one-run lead through the first four innings of the second.
Calamita was 2-for-5 with a walk and one RBI. She has had at least one hit in six of her last seven games, totaling seven hits and six RBIs.
Salisbury 8, McDaniel 1
The game was scoreless through the first two innings before the Sea Gulls (18-1) scored three runs in the top of the third, including the second on an RBI-ground out and the third on a throwing error.
Freshman
Libertie Schatzman limited Salisbury to just three runs on seven hits through the first five innings as she stranded nine runners on base.
However, the visitors doubled their lead to 6-0 in the sixth as they scored three unearned runs, taking advantage of a throwing error and a passed ball.
The Green Terror avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the sixth as freshman
Anna Putnam hit a two-out, RBI-single to center to score Calamita.
Salisbury scored its final two runs in the seventh when Abby Mace hit her seventh home run of the season and tied a Salisbury record with the 52nd of her career.
Putnam was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Calamita went 1-for-2 with a walk.
Schatzman allowed just four runs over 6.1 innings while striking out three.

Amy Anderson limited the Sea Gulls to just two hits while striking out three.
Trailing 1-0, Salisbury broke through with three runs in the top of the fifth. After the first three batters reached base, Jillian Dawson hit a two-run single through the right side before Emily Chellender plated the final run with a sacrifice fly.
Isabella Purdy preserved the two-run lead for the visitors as she retired all nine batters she faced over the final three innings inside the circle.
Calamita was 1-for-3 with one RBI while Butz went 1-for-3 with a run. Freshman
Keonna Gonzalez was 1-for-2.
Anderson scattered four hits over 4.0 innings while striking out three.
The Green Terror return to Centennial Conference play on Tuesday as they travel to Chestertown, Md. to face Washington College. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
