McDaniel 7, Dickinson 5
The Red Devils (10-19, 7-7 CC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Green Terror used a five-run fourth to take a two-run lead. Schatzman started the scoring with a two-run single before an RBI-double by Butz tied the game at 3-3.
Freshman
Riley Jackson followed with a two-out, two-run single to put McDaniel in front by two, 5-3.
Dickinson tied the game for the second time with two, two-out RBIs of their own in the top of the fifth before Schatzman drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning with an RBI-double that scored senior
Paytyn Hazelton.
Shawyer then scored Schatzman during the next at-bat with a single up the middle. Once again, both runs came with two outs.
The Red Devils loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth, but Costa was able to get Jane Lloyd to ground out to end the threat. She then retired Dickinson in order in the top of the seventh to record her eighth win.
Schatzman was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Shawyer went 3-for-3 with one RBI. Butz was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
McDaniel 7, Dickinson 2
Costa allowed just two runs on nine hits over 7.0 innings in her second complete game of the day while the offense jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed.
Shawyer started the scoring with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the second before senior
Taylor Routzahn had an RBI-single in the third.
The Red Devils pulled within one on a two-run single by Kaylie Renner in the fourth, but that would be as close as the visitors would get as McDaniel scored the game's final four runs.
Routzahn scored on a wild pitch in the fifth before Schatzman scored Hazelton on an RBI-single with two outs.
Routzahn, who was playing against her sister Lauren for the final time in the regular season, added a two-out, two-run single in the sixth to provide the final margin.
Routzahn was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Shawyer was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Schatzman was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
McDaniel hosts its final home games of the season on Wednesday when it welcomes in-state rival Hood to the Softball Park. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
