Third Quarter Leads Swarthmore Past Women's Lacrosse

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Leading by one at the half, Swarthmore outscored the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team 8-0 in the third quarter en route to an 18-7 victory Saturday at Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (6-7, 1-4 CC) rallied from a 7-3 deficit with three goals in the final five minutes of the first half and trailed by just one at halftime, 7-6.

Senior Emma Legacy netted her eighth hat-trick of the season and second-straight while adding four draw controls. Senior Emma Miller scored twice to go along with two ground balls and four draw controls.

Legacy gave McDaniel a 1-0 lead before Miller tied the game at 2-2 and Legacy notted it at 3-3. After four consecutive goals by the Garnet, tallies by Legacy, Miller and sophomore Charlotte Alexander pulled the Green Terror within one at halftime.

Sophomore Caleigh Kohr made four of her six saves in the opening quarter to keep the game tied at 3-3 after Swarthmore out-shot McDaniel, 10-3.

After a scoreless first five minutes to start the third quarter, the Garnet (8-4, 2-4 CC) scored 11-straight goals, including five in a span of 2:39, as they took an 18-6 lead with 4:23 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Mia McElwee capped the scoring off an assist from freshman Emma Carpenter with 3:01 to play.

Swarthmore held a 31-17 edge in shots with a 15-6 advantage in the second half while Helen Stafford made four of her five saves, all of which came in the third quarter. Five of the visitors' 11 second-half goals came on free positions as they were 5-for-5.

McDaniel begins a two-game road trip on Wednesday when they head to Dickinson. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
