WESTMINSTER, Md. - Seniors
Paytyn Hazelton and
Makayla Calamita each had four hits as the McDaniel College softball team split a home doubleheader with Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
The Green Terror (11-17, 3-5 CC) have now won four of the last six meetings with the Diplomats as the two teams met in Westminster for the first time since 2021.
Hazelton went 4-for-7 with two doubles and three RBIs while Calamita was 4-for-8 with two RBIs.
Senior
Mandy Butz went 3-for 7 with a double, home run and three RBIs. She also had two diving catches in centerfield.
McDaniel 7, Franklin & Marshall 2
The Diplomats struck on an RBI-ground out in the top of the second as Madison Martin scored Maddy Yeingst who led off with a triple to left.
The Green Terror got all the runs they would need with four in the bottom of the third. After a lead-off single by junior
Jessica Millard and a double by junior
Bella Sylvester, Calamita drove in Millard with an RBI-single before a bases clearing double by Hazelton put McDaniel in front, 4-1.
Calamita added another RBI-single in the fourth to make it 5-1 before Franklin & Marshall got a run back in the fifth on an RBI-single by Klepper.
McDaniel capped the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded walk by Millard and an RBI-ground out by Butz that scored sophomore
Sariah Guevara.
The Diplomats loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but junior
Hannah Costa closed the door, inducing two fly balls to earn the win. Despite allowing six walks, she scattered six hits over 7.0 innings and struck out three to earn her sixth win this season.
Hazelton went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs while Calamita was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Freshman
Arianna Kelly got the start in game two before giving way to freshman
Libertie Schatzman.
Trailing 2-0, the Green Terror got a run back in the bottom of the first when Butz drove the first pitch she saw over the right field wall for her third home run of the season. Calamita followed with a single up the middle before Hazelton singled through the left side to tie the game at 2-2.
An RBI-single in the top of the second quickly put the Diplomats back in front before McDaniel answered with an RBI-single by Butz that scored senior
Taylor Routzahn who doubled to centerf iield before an RBI-single by Butz tied the game for the second time.
Franklin & Marshall (9-17, 1-5 CC) earned their first conference win of the season after scoring the game's final six runs, including two unearned runs in the seventh.
Schatzman did not allow a walk and surrendered just five earned runs over 7.0 innings of relief while striking out two.
Hazelton was 1-for-3 with an RBI-double while Calamita went 2-for-4.
McDaniel continues its 12-game home stand on Thursday when they welcome Gettysburg for a rescheduled doubleheader from April 2. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
