WESTMINSTER, Md. - Junior
Bella Sylvester joined the 100-hit club as the McDaniel College softball team opened its home schedule with a doubleheader sweep over Notre Dame of Maryland Wednesday at the Softball Park.
The Green Terror (8-6) snapped a five-game losing streak while extending their winning streak in home openers to five dating back to 2019.
Sylvester is the 42nd member of the program's 100-hit club and the second to join this season after senior
Makayla Calamita did so against Skidmore on March 11. McDaniel has had four players reach 100 career hits in the last two seasons.Â
Katy Newton andÂ
Evie Craig each reached the mark last year.
Calamita totaled four hits against the Gators, going 4-for-7 with two runs scored.
McDaniel 5, Notre Dame 1
After the Gators took the early lead on an RBI-double with two outs in the top of the first, the Green Terror answered with a pair of runs in the first and second. Freshman
Ashley Shawyer tied the game on a bases loaded walk before senior
Paytyn Hazelton drove in what proved to be the game-winning run on a fielder's choice.
In the second, senior
Mandy Butz scored Sylvester with a single up the middle following Sylvester's 100th career hit before later scoring on an error by the visitors with two outs to put McDaniel in front 4-1.
The three-run lead would remain the same until the bottom of the sixth when sophomore
Ryan Smith scored Calamita with an RBI-single to right to cap the scoring.
Calamita and freshman
Riley Jackson both went 2-for-4 while Butz was 1-for-2 with an RBI, two walks and two runs scored.
Junior

After a scoreless first, the Green Terror scored on an RBI-single by freshman
Anna Putnam in the second before plating six runs in the third, highlighted by RBI doubles from Putnam and freshman
Caitlin Boden. Freshman
Keonna Gonzalez also had an RBI-single.
McDaniel walked it off in the bottom of the fifth when junior
Olivia Dresser hit an RBI-single to score Jackson and invoke the run rule.
Meanwhile, freshman
Libertie Schatzman had a no hitter through three and picked up her third win in five starts, allowing just two hits.
Putnam finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Butz was 2-for-2 with a walk. Boden went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Calamita was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
