First, Fourth Quarters Carry River Hawks Past McDaniel

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna outscored the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team 7-0 over the first and fourth quarters en route to a 17-9 victory Saturday at Sassafras Field.

The Green Terror (2-2) had won five-straight against the River Hawks dating back to 2015 and two in-a-row in Selinsgrove.

Susquehanna scored the game's first six goals on just nine shots, including five in the first quarter before senior Emma Miller got the visitors on the board with 14:09 remaining in the second with the first of her two goals.

The second quarter saw the two teams combine for 14 goals as each found the back of the net seven times. They combined to score four goals in a span of 1:11 late in the period with McDaniel scoring three of them to cut its deficit to four with 4:23 left, 9-5.

Senior Emma Legacy scored three of the visitors seven tallies in the quarter, but after her second pulled the Green Terror within three with 3:39 to play, the River Hawks scored three of their own in a span of 54 seconds to push their lead back to six, 12-6.

Legacy completed the hat-trick, her third of the season and ninth of her career, with 53 seconds remaining as McDaniel trailed 12-7 at halftime.

Susquehanna (2-2) scored three of the five goals in the third quarter to lead 15-9 before outscoring the visitors 2-0 in the fourth to provide the final margin.

Miller totaled four points with two goals and two assists while adding three draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover. Legacy finished with three goals and three draw controls while sophomore Kat Thayer had two goals, one assist, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls.

Defensively, senior Daniella Leighty had two ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls and junior Sadie Bowman added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The Green Terror return home to face Bridgewater (VA) on Thursday, March 7 for a 5 p.m. opening draw.
