Quick Starts Propels Women's Lacrosse Past Abright, 17-7

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The McDaniel College women's lacrosse team outscored Albright 12-2 in the first and third quarters en route to a 10-goal spring break victory Wednesday at Phillip Jones Field.

The Green Terror (4-2) snapped a three-game losing streak against the Lions, avenging last year's 14-12 loss on the same field.

Senior Gaby Kohr totaled six points and four assists, both career highs, while senior Emma Miller added five goals. Sophomore Mia McElwee also registered her first career hat-trick.

McDaniel scored the game's first six goals, three of which came from Miller, each of which was assisted by Kohr, as the team led 6-0 after the first quarter. The team scored six goals on 10 shots as it out-shot Albright, 10-4.

The Lions (1-7) opened the second quarter with back-to-back tallies before Miller netted her fourth of the game to put the Green Terror ahead 7-2 at halftime.

After Albright scored the first goal of the second half, McDaniel scored the next four, including two from McElwee to highlight a 4-0 run that saw the Green Terror increase their lead to 11-3. Sophomore Jordon Gambrill capped the run with her first goal of the season.

McDaniel led 13-4 at the end of the third after senior Emma Legacy scored on a free-position shot with one second remaining.

Like the second and third quarters, the Lions also scored the first goal of the fourth before the Green Terror answered with another four consecutive tallies book-ended by goals from Kohr. Freshmen Delaney Penn and Lindsey Roberts also picked up their first career points during the run.

McDaniel scored the game's first six goals in the first quarter and six of the eight in the third while out-shooting Albright, 23-10. The Green Terror also won 20 of the 26 draw controls in the contest while totaling eight caused turnovers, including four from Legacy. She also added four draw controls and three ground balls.

Miller totaled five goals, three ground balls, nine draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Sophomore Caleigh Kohr tied her career high with nine saves before giving way to sophomore Emma Wood for the final eight minutes.

McDaniel looks for its third-straight win on Saturday when it hosts SUNY Brockport beginning at 11 a.m. inside Gill Stadium. The Green Terror have won two out of three at home this season.
