SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The McDaniel College women's basketball team outscored Swarthmore 20-9 in the fourth quarter to erase a nine-point deficit en route to a 56-54 victory Saturday at Tarble Pavilion.
The Green Terror (12-9, 7-9 CC) posted their second-straight win over the Garnet at Tarble Pavilion and picked up their 12th win of the season, the team's most in the last five seasons since 2018-19.
McDaniel trailed by nine through three quarters and by eight, 50-42, with 7:17 remaining in ther fourth. A 7-0 run, keyed by a three-point play from freshman
Raegan Lenz, a layup by junior
Lil Overcash and two free throws from freshman
Teya McConnaha, pulled the visitors within one with 5:22 to play.
Swarthmore (10-11, 8-8 CC) went back in front by three on two different occasions and led 54-51 with 2:10 left. However, the Green Terror scored the game's final five points, taking their first lead of the game, 55-54, following two made free throws by junior
Peyton Tague with 1:25 remaining.
The Garnet, who were just 4-for-16 from the floor in the fourth quarter, missed an 18-foot jumper with two seconds to play and a tip-in as time expired.
McDaniel trailed by as many as 16 points late in the second quarter, but outscored Swarthmore, 43-25 over the game's final 22 minutes.
McConnaha posted her third double double of the season and second in the last three games with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Lenz just missed her first career double double with 17 points and nine rebounds. She was 6-of-7 from the floor and 5-of-5 from the free throw line while adding two blocks.
Overcash finished with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists. She scored nine points in the decisive fourth quarter while Lenz added seven as they combined for 16 of the team's 20 points.
The Green Terror scored 13 of their 20 fourth-quarter points from the free throw line, going 13-for-17.
McDaniel returns to action next Thursday, Feb. 8 when it hosts Washington College on Rebecca L. Martin Court beginning at 7:30 p.m.
